The sun graciously lit the earth, while the air stirred the cold. A clear winter day offered just the right opportunity to get some brush and debris cleared up. As I worked to create the pile that would soon be reduced to ash, my mind meandered through aisles of history. Just think, a man has done this very type of work since the beginning of the age. God said that a man should: walk with Him, Love Him, Love people, and work/maintain the earth.

I should have taken a picture of it to put on here, but we inhaled it. All of it. In less than 5 minutes. Chris first introduced me to this treat when he took me out on one of those awesome and rare things called Date Night. We cleaned up pretty good and he took me to Downtown Atlanta to the Hard Rock Cafe. This was our appetizer before some pretty darn good steaks. I knew that I just HAD to learn how to make it because, let's face it, driving to the Hard Rock every time we got a craving would get crazy expensive. I cannot believe I had gone 33 years without eating this!
I remember one of our first winters in our newly purchased home. I awoke freezing cold and hearing trees explode and fall all around my house. What on EARTH is going on? An ice storm. It was a particularly nasty storm; we had received a few inches of snow and then that snow turned to ice, and a layer of ice 2-3 inches thick was deposited on top of the snow. The result: 70 foot tall pine trees snapping under the weight of the snow and ice taking out power lines, blocking roads and leaving us stranded with no power, no water, no food...we were hopelessly helpless.
We home school our children. It is not in a million years what I ever dreamed of doing. In fact, I have a Sociology Major with a minor in Psychology so people studying is my thing. I swore I'd never home school my children because they would never turn out normal. HAHA! That's the issue with taking a vow--it never works the way you think it will. We are 2 years into our journey now and I have no regrets.
Why is it when I sit down to write something all the thoughts in my head seem to get muted by the voice that says "Uh, do you REALLY believe you have something to say? Do you really think you have something to offer?" Have you heard that voice? I'm quite familiar with it. It haunts me on a daily basis it seems.
Why gluten free and egg free? My mom recently discovered she is mildly allergic to wheat and egg whites. That stinks. What stinks more is her birthday was Christmas day and this would be her first year without a cake. So, I went on a search for something to make her smile. You won't believe the amazing treat I found...

A newborn child cries, an elderly man shakes his head, and a middle aged man sinks into silence. Behind the veil the world can see, lies a newfound disturbance inside of each one of these. It never fails. Seasons are changing, the weather here is whacky---freezing one day and wearing short sleeves the next, and now one by one my family is coming down with sickness. I'm not sure how it happens, but the timing always seems to be when we are on school break. Not sure about you, but I'd much rather spend my break doing something other than wiping noses, killing fevers and going crazy because we are locked in a house. On the upside though, I've learned lots of new and great home remedies to get us through. Here are some of my favorites....
When God first gave me this word I thought if I ever shared it that it would be perfect for my married girl friends. This came about at a terribly difficult season in my marriage...one that I'm thankful to be on the other side of now. It seemed like I was walking through junk every direction I turned and every attack just added more weight and obscured my vision more and more. I was looking at my husband with eyes filtered by the struggles we faced. I was fighting with him, not fighting for him....
I think that my quest to start a more natural, toxin free way of living started when my oldest was really young. She suffered every year from upper respiratory infections and the doctors kept prescribing inhalers and breathing treatments and diagnosed her with "seasonal asthma". *sigh* I hated the inhalers, I hated the effects on her, I hated continual dosing of my child. At one time between her and her sister I had an entire basket full of inhalers, cough medicines and antibiotics with 2 small notebook papers filled out with dosages and times to administer so that I didn't get confused. I decided I'd had enough and began to make life changes. I realized that if she was having trouble breathing I needed to clean the air in our home to help ease her problems. I threw out all of our traditional cleaners and bought the environmentally friendly, non toxic and EXPENSIVE cleaners. My daughter is 10 now and has been inhaler free for probably 6 years. I'm not saying it is only due to changing cleaners, I give all the glory and praise to God for his healing touch and for giving me the ability to learn new things.
