The beginnings of a beautiful thing...
In the past we have done traditional gardening in rows. This year Chris redesigned our approach because we haven't always been very successful. We decided to do raised beds and put as much in each bed as we could. We tried to do a mix of things in each bed such as tomatoes, beans, strawberries, lettuce, radishes etc.
So we planted and waited. And waited, and waited. Our winter and cool weather was longer than usual...probably not getting warm until June instead of the normal late April or May. Everything was delayed because of this. Eventually things began to sprout and bloom and excitement began to build. Then the rains came. It rained FOR-EV-ER. The garden was flooding, the chickens were miserable, the goats were miserable and so were we. But as with any process with God's hand upon it, our plants lived and did not die. They grew despite the abundance of water standing all around them. I was so thankful for Chris's idea of the raised beds. I believe that helped save our plants because the water could drain out of the beds.
And this is about where the photos of our progress stop. I might be able to find a few buried somewhere in digital photo land. A major not-so-great life event happened for us the last week in May through the end of June. Needless to say our photo collection of garden progress abruptly stopped.
So, here it is August and I have pictures of harvest to share! Harvest is the best part, right?! God has been good to us. Eating fresh, healthy, home grown food has become not only our passion, but a lifestyle for us. We thank Him for imparting wisdom to us and for providing a beautiful harvest.
